November 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Switzerland\u00a0aligned\u00a0itself\u00a0with the European Union\u2019s package of restrictions imposed on Belarus on July 23, the Swiss Federal Council reported, citing Minsk\u2019s ongoing involvement in the Russian war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Swiss sanctions took effect late on November 4, while the sectoral restrictions came into force on November 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU restrictions approved in late July were part of the 21st package of sanctions punishing Russia for its war against Ukraine and Belarus for continued assistance to Moscow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU significantly extended new sanctions against Belarus, harmonizing them with the restrictions imposed on Russia.\u00a0In particular, Brussels sanctioned the Mazyr oil refinery and the European Trading Company LLC, a company selling Belarusian petroleum products in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 21st package of sanctions also included an extension of the transaction ban to 14 crypto-related service platforms, including those based in Belarus. Other restrictions introduced import bans on goods generating significant revenue for Belarus as well as export restrictions related to the military industry. In particular, the EU expanded the list of goods banned for export to Belarus because they could benefit its defense and security sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
