Journalists said that the Trump administration wanted Lithuania to open a Baltic Sea port to Belarusian potash exports despite European Union sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Budrys said Lithuania\u2019s talks with US diplomats focused on sanctions against Minsk and did not address fertilizer transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minsk and Washington have been discussing potash exports to the US as part of their negotiations that have resulted in the release of hundreds of Belarusian political prisoners and the removal of some US sanctions against Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da made clear in September that Vilnius would not lift sanctions on potash transit. \u201cWe have our position, and we have made it clear,\u201d <em>Delfi<\/em> quoted him as saying earlier. \u201cIn some cases, it aligns with the EU position.
