{"id":210620,"date":"2026-11-05T14:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-11-05T11:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210620\/"},"modified":"2026-11-05T14:38:19","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T11:38:19","slug":"belarus-upgrading-checkpoint-at-lithuanian-border","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210620\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus upgrading checkpoint at Lithuanian border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 5, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>A large-scale project kicked off at the Kamienny \u0141oh checkpoint at the border with Lithuania on November 5 to triple its traffic capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The renovation work is expected to be completed in 2029, with no reduction in the flow of traffic through the Kamienny \u0141oh-Medininkai crossing in coming years, Belarus\u2019 State Border Committee reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announcing the project in late January, U\u0142adzimir Ar\u0142o\u016dski, chief of the State Border Committee, said that Kamienny \u0141oh is the only checkpoint at Belarus\u2019 border with the European Union that had not been upgraded more than two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the State Border Committee, the checkpoint can process 600 cars and 500 trucks a day at present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, only two crossings, Kamienny \u0141oh-Medininkai and Bieniakoni-\u0160al\u010dininkai, handle all cross-border traffic between Belarus and Lithuania. Vilnius closed the \u0160umskas and Tvere\u010dius checkpoints in 2023 and the Lavori\u0161k\u0117s and Raigardas checkpoints in 2024, citing national security and smuggling among the reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late 2025, tensions between Belarus and Lithuania over cigarette-smuggling balloons forced Lithuanian authorities to close crossings in \u0160al\u010dininkai and Medininkai for three weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 5, Pozirk.
