October 31, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The US Department of Commerce has allowed Boeing to work with Bie\u0142avija (Belavia), Ihar \u010carhiniec, director of Belarus\u2019 national airline, told BelTA on October 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u010carhiniec said that the permission, granted on 31 October, would enable Bie\u0142avija to directly obtain spare parts, components and software for its Boeing aircraft and pave the way for talks on the acquisition of new planes directly from Boeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u010carhiniec noted that the US Department of the Treasury had previously issued similar authorization, creating the \u201ctechnical possibility\u201d for Bie\u0142avija\u2019s direct cooperation with Boeing. A year ago, the US government issued a permit that lifted all political sanctions against Bie\u0142avija, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attributed the breakthrough to negotiations between Minsk and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither the US Department of the Treasury nor the US Department of Commerce have reported on the decision, which, according to \u010carhiniec, has already been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar Ho\u0142ub, head of the transport ministry\u2019s aviation department, told reporters on October 29 thatBelarus and the United States are discussing the launch of a passenger air service between the two countries.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142avija (Belavia) was banned from the European Union after Belarusian security forces forced a Ryanair plane to land in Minsk in May 2021 to arrest an opposition blogger and his girlfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sanctions against Bie\u0142avija were tightened following a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022. The United States imposed its own restrictions on the airline in August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2025, Washington lifted its sanctions after American diplomats had secured the release of more than 50 designated political prisoners during talks with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
