October 26, Pozirk. Migrant workers from Tajikistan will be deployed in Belarus’ Hrodna region for jobs paying between $750 and $1,200 a month, according to the Central Asian country’s labor ministry.

A delegation of Tajikistan’s Agency for Overseas Employment negotiated an agreement to that effect while visiting the Hrodna region, the ministry said.

A dozen employers in the construction industry, agricultural sector, the textile and heavy industry, the services sector and the public transport sector have pledged to hire the Tajiks, providing them with housing, meals and workwear.

The candidates are required to speak Russian, have no criminal record and be in good health.

The delegation visited the operator of Hrodna’s bus fleet, which already employs Tajik nationals.

Belarus’ nominal (before-tax) monthly pay reportedly averaged 3,099 rubels ($1,030) in September.

According to Belarus’ State Employment Service, 17,894 job openings were available to foreigners in Belarus as of October 23, with the number rising by 22.8 percent since August 23.

The government plans to attract at least 50,000 foreign workers to Belarus by 2030, according to a report released in December 2025.

Hundreds of thousands of Belarusian citizens are believed to have left Belarus in recent years as its authorities cracked down on political opponents and sided with Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Four months ago, following talks with visiting Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Alaksandar Łukašenka announced that he had invited migrant workers from Uzbekistan to come to Belarus with their families. “We cannot get by without hiring workers from outside,” he explained.

Around 5,000 Uzbek workers were expected to arrive in Belarus’ Viciebsk region to take jobs in agriculture, construction, industry and the services sector, with some also set to work as nurses.

Łukašenka turned to Uzbekistan after a similar effort to recruit workers from Pakistan had failed.
