October 26, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Trade driven by consumer demand has been the major driver of Belarus\u2019 economic growth, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) says in its weekly macroeconomic review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian GDP grew by 2 percent year on year in January\u2013September, unchanged from the January\u2013August figure, while trade growth accelerated to 4 percent from 3.9 percent, the analysts noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Retail trade rose by 8.7 percent in the first nine months of 2026 amid an 8.2-percent rise in real disposable incomes. Growth in transportation services, up 4.8 percent, and passenger traffic, up 7.6 percent, also contributed to GDP growth, the EDB said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts expect Belarus\u2019 GDP growth at 2.1 percent this year, in line with their August 24 forecast of growth exceeding 2 percent provided the economy does not experience new shocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government projected GDP to grow by 2.8 percent this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Monetary Fund forecasts Belarus\u2019 economy to grow by 1.9 percent in 2026, while the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development expects a 1.3-percent rise. The Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development revised its earlier forecast of Belarus economic growth to 2 percent from its previous estimate of 1.1 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
