{"id":208740,"date":"2026-10-23T18:29:39","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T15:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/208740\/"},"modified":"2026-10-23T18:29:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T15:29:41","slug":"coe-body-head-ready-to-foster-ties-between-belarus-opposition-and-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/208740\/","title":{"rendered":"CoE body head ready to foster ties between Belarus\u2019 opposition and Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 23, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe could facilitate closer cooperation between Belarusian pro-democracy forces and Ukraine at the regional level, its secretary general Mathieu Mori has told journalists in Strasbourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official made this statement in response to <em>Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> question whether there was room within the Congress for independent Belarusian local actors to participate in discussions on regional security and the future reconstruction of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mori recalled attending the International Summit of Cities and Regions in Kyiv in May, where he witnessed high-level contact between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja. The secretary general expressed confidence that, following this example, Congress members could support the establishment of stronger relations between the two national delegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mori met with the press to present the agenda for the 51st session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, scheduled for October 27\u201329 in Strasbourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Congress is a pan-European political assembly within the Council of Europe that represents over 130,000 local and regional authorities across 46 CoE member states. Its stated mission is to strengthen local democracy by monitoring the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and observing local and regional elections to ensure they meet European standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian opposition Coordination Council formed a delegation to the Congress in late August. It will be able to attend Congress sessions and committee meetings with no voting rights but may attend meetings of the Congress\u2019s political groups under conditions set by the groups themselves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 23, Pozirk.
