October 23, Pozirk. Belarusian Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakoŭ has reported a steep increase in cyberattacks targeting the police agency, claiming that the number of “external threats to the interior ministry’s infrastructure” has risen tenfold this year compared with 2025.

Speaking at the ministry’s board meeting on Friday, Kubrakoŭ noted that technological advances combined with the expansion of the ministry’s digital infrastructure had resulted in growing “external destructive pressure” and exposure to cyberattacks.

Kubrakoŭ played up the ministry’s countermeasures, including the establishment of “cybersecurity centers,” which he said had helped prevent major attacks on internal information systems and the loss of data.

Kubrakoŭ recalled that Alaksandar Łukašenka had recently amended his 2004 public security directive to make information security the government’s key priority alongside law enforcement and countering “extremism.”

The interior ministry’s website, like other government and many state media sites, is currently inaccessible to foreign users without a VPN. Meanwhile, exiled independent media outlets continue to report frequent cyberattacks, especially around major political events related to Belarus.
