Investigators argued that his academic background demonstrated that he had sufficient knowledge to understand the nature and scale of the crimes committed by the Nazis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian authorities stepped up prosecutions for the rehabilitation of Nazism and began promoting the \u201cgenocide of the Belarusian people\u201d narrative in 2021, following the 2020 postelection crackdown. The offence carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historians and analysts say the authorities also use these charges to discredit opponents by associating their symbols with Nazi collaborators as well as to justify the regime\u2019s support for Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 20, Pozirk.
