October 14, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus continue with no signs of improvement, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja told a panel discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event focused on countering Russian authoritarianism, her press office said, listing former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former Georgian President Salom\u00e9 Zourabichvili and Russian opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza among the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja described Ukraine\u2019s victory as crucial for the entire region, saying it could give Belarusian society an impetus to break free from dependence on Russia. She urged the international community to step up support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician also called for the withdrawal of Russian troops and nuclear weapons from Belarus and the dismantling of Russian military facilities in the country to prevent potential attacks on Ukraine or European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier at the Forum, Cichano\u016dskaja said it was Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s conscious choice to hand Belarus over to Russia in exchange for its political backing, stressing that \u0141uka\u0161enka now \u201cbears full responsibility for all the crimes he has committed together with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
