13 October, Pozirk.<\/strong> Sviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja and Ukraine\u2019s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha discussed the growing Russian military presence in Belarus and sanctions policy proposals, according to the Belarusian pro-democracy leader\u2019s press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the October 12-13 Warsaw Security Forum and also featured Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet, and Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s aides Franak Via\u010dorka and Dzianis Ku\u010dynski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja reportedly expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people amid Russian missile and drone attacks, thanked Ukraine for supporting Belarusian volunteers and for assisting Belarusians in Ukraine whose documents have expired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants discussed \u201cthe coordination of sanctions policy between Ukraine, the EU, and Belarusian pro-democracy forces,\u201d as well as new proposed restrictions against companies and individuals supporting Russia\u2019s war effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another subject under discussion was the joint work to document the \u201ccrimes of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime, including its complicity in the aggression against Ukraine and the unlawful transfer of Ukrainian children.\u201d Support for international justice mechanisms was discussed, including the case initiated by Lithuania at the International Criminal Court, was also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, participants discussed the activities of the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Kyiv and ways of expanding its cooperation with Ukrainian governmental agencies \u201cto address practical problems facing by Belarusians in Ukraine, as well as holding joint events on international platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian delegation handed Sybiha a copy of the BelPol\u2019s report on the militarization of Belarus in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a message on X<\/a>, Sybiha expressed satisfaction with the meeting. \u201cWe had a substantive discussion on security challenges, sanctions, the Lukashenka regime\u2019s responsibility for complicity in Russia\u2019s aggression, and further cooperation between Ukraine and the Belarusian democratic forces,\u201d he wrote. \u201cAn independent and democratic Belarus is an important pillar of security in our region. Its future must be determined by the Belarusian people, not Moscow,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities sided with the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions, supplying weapons to Moscow and providing other kinds of assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
