{"id":207260,"date":"2026-10-13T19:59:35","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T16:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/207260\/"},"modified":"2026-10-13T19:59:37","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T16:59:37","slug":"belpol-russia-paying-for-upgrading-belarus-military-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/207260\/","title":{"rendered":"BelPol: Russia paying for upgrading Belarus\u2019 military infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 13, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Russia has recently been \u201ceffectively paying for the modernization of Belarus\u2019 military infrastructure,\u201d Ma\u0107viej Kuprej\u010dyk, a member of Belarusian investigative group BelPol, said in Warsaw on October 13 while unveiling a report on Belarus\u2019 militarization in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moscow has invested an enormous amount of money in the modernization of Belarusian military airfields, equipping them with new radar systems, replacing runway surfaces and installing new runway lights, all of which increases the potential number of takeoffs and landings, Kuprej\u010dyk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kuprej\u010dyk noted that Russia is reinforcing Belarus\u2019 railroad network to be able to carry military equipment and installing relay stations and other communication equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Russia\u2019s involvement, hidden underground fuel storage facilities are being upgraded, and Soviet-era depots for artillery shells and missiles are being restored, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to BelPol, the ongoing work to reorient manufacturers to defense industry contracts will finish in the first half of 2027, enabling Belarus to make enough chassis units, drones and other equipment for potential military action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BelPol\u2019s member U\u0142adzimir \u017dyhar noted that Belarus is simultaneously restoring its bomb shelters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u017dyhar warned that any attack on Belarus can prompt the deployment of Russian forces under the Union State\u2019s agreement on security guarantees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked by <em>Pozirk<\/em> how Western countries could restrain Belarus\u2019 militarization, \u017dyhar replied that they have much leverage beyond sanctions. Ukraine could solve such problems \u201cwith its own methods,\u201d but \u201cthis does not suit us because we understand well the consequences of such actions,\u201d he said, apparently referring to potential strikes on Belarusian targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u017dyhar dismissed the claim that Western sanctions push Belarus toward closer cooperation with Russia. He noted that that the restrictions were imposed after Belarus had already begun collaborating with the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities sided with the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions, supplying weapons to Moscow and providing other kinds of assistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 13, Pozirk.
