October 13, Pozirk. Belarus has opened a terrorism case in connection with last week’s drone attack on a Belarusian truck in Russia in which a Belarusian woman reportedly sustained severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of her limbs.

In a message on its website, the Prosecutor General’s Office warns that “acts of terrorism against civilian population” have become more frequent near the border between Russia and Ukraine and urges people to avoid traveling to the fighting zone and adjacent areas.

On October 8, the Belarusian foreign ministry’s spokesperson Rusłan Varankoŭ reported that a drone struck a Belarusian-registered truck in Russia’s Bryansk province earlier that day, injuring a 31-year-old woman, a citizen of Belarus. Varankoŭ said that the patient was in intensive care, connected to a ventilator, and described her condition as extremely serious but stable.

The Belarusian foreign ministry blamed the attack on Ukraine, summoning its Chargé d’Affaires Ivan Novytsky and handing him a formal note of protest on October 9. Minsk said that Kyiv had previously been warned of the inadmissibility of such actions. The Belarusian origin of the vehicle was clear, which gives Belarus grounds to consider the attack deliberate, Varankoŭ commented.

Kyiv pushed back against such rhetoric, warning that Belarus should refrain from making baseless accusations against Ukraine and describing Minsk as an “accomplice to a crime of aggression.”

At least three drone attacks on Belarusian motor vehicles in Russia have been reported in recent months.

One person was reportedly killed and eight people, including six children, suffered blast injuries when a drone attacked a Belarusian bus carrying children in Russia’s Bryansk province on June 17. While warning against drawing premature conclusions, Alaksandar Łukašenka on June 18 blamed the strike on a Ukrainian drone.

On July 2, the Belarusian health ministry reported that two drivers and one passenger were injured a drone attack on a Belarusian bus in Russia earlier in the day. Boris Gryzlov, the Russian ambassador to Belarus, described it as “a deliberate strike” by Ukraine, while Alaksandar Valfovič, state secretary of Belarus’ Security Council, dismissed it as an accident.

On September 25 and 26, two Belarusian trucks were hit by attack drones in Russia near the Krasny Kamen border checkpoint, independent news outlet Flagshtok reported, adding that the drivers were not hurt. There was no official confirmation of the incident.
