October 13, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja discussed regional security and militarization of Belarus with the leadership of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), her press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting with Marcos Perestrello, president of the NATO PA, and Benedetta Berti, secretary general, took place during the Warsaw Security Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja lobbied for pressure on the Belarusian defense sector and companies that support Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine, as well as for expanding cooperation between Belarusian pro-democracy forces and the NATO PA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician stressed existing cooperation with the parliamentary assemblies of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe, and expressed interest in expanding ties with the NATO PA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the meeting, Cichano\u016dskaja said systemic democratic change in Belarus was essential for long-term regional security. Belarus must cease to pose a threat to Ukraine, neighboring countries and NATO members, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
