October 12, Pozirk. Nine Belarusians involved in illegal cigarette production were forcibly deported from Poland last week and barred from entering the country and other Schengen Area states for seven years, the Polish Border Guard reports.

Investigators in Gdańsk said the suspects operated cigarette production lines and distributed cigarettes without Polish excise stamps. They were charged with participation in an organized criminal group.

Last month, ten Belarusians were charged in Poland with illegally producing cigarettes, according to the Polish National Revenue Administration. Investigators reportedly discovered the fully equipped plant in a village in the Pomeranian province in March, with counterfeit Philip Morris cigarettes under its roof.

Earlier this year, Lithuanian border authorities warned that well-known international cigarette brands, as well as Belarusian cigarettes, are produced at clandestine factories. Several such facilities have previously been shut down by law enforcement agencies.
