October 9, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy leader Sviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has appointed volunteer coordinator Vieranika Stankievi\u010d as the United Transitional Cabinet\u2019s representative for social policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julija Mickievi\u010d has been appointed as Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s advisor on inclusivity and equality and Stanis\u0142a\u016d Sa\u0142aviej as advisor on healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vieranika Stankievi\u010d was nominated by the Coalition of \u0141atu\u0161ka and Movement for Freedom, the largest political group within the opposition Coordination Council, and selected from a list of three candidates on October 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 30-year-old Stankievi\u010d is a coordinator for Volnyja, a volunteer network that supports victims of politically-motivated persecution in Belarus. In April, the Committee for State Security (KGB) designated the initiative as an \u201cextremist group.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a message on her Telegram channel, Cichano\u016dskaja says that Stankievi\u010d\u2019s experience of helping victims of repression is very important for her position, which is \u201cabout supporting those who have found themselves in a difficult situation and need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The previous social policy chief, Volha Zazulinskaja, currently heads Belarusian pro-democracy forces\u2019 office in Kyiv. Julija Mickievi\u010d deputized for her after her departure on August 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mickievi\u010d is a gender expert and founder of FemGroup Belarus, who has advocated for gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights for 25 years. Sa\u0142aviej is a medical doctor specializing in gynecology and oncology who formerly served as the cabinet\u2019s deputy representative for social policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advisors provide analysis and recommendations and draft reform proposals for the Office of Sviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
