October 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Czech government approved changes that will allow close relatives of Belarusians legally residing in the country to apply for short-term visas, the press office of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician has repeatedly raised the issue of easing visa restrictions for Belarusian families during her meetings with Czech authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the changes take effect, close relatives of Czech and Belarusian nationals legally residing in Czechia with a residence permit or permanent residence status will be eligible to apply for short-term visas. Eligible family members include parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is an extremely important step and a clear signal of trust in the Belarusian democratic community,\u201d said Kry\u015bcina \u0160yjanok, head of the Belarusian pro-democracy forces\u2019 office in Prague. The move would give hundreds of families hope and an opportunity to reunite with loved ones after being separated by the Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime, she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
