October 6, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Two women resident in Minsk have been sentenced to non-custodial \u201crestricted freedom\u201d terms for allegedly facilitating the irregular entry of 53 foreigners into Belarus over three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women were given two and a half years and two years in home confinement and fines of 13,500 rubels ($4,400) and 9,000 rubels, respectively, under Part Two of the Criminal Code\u2019s Article 371, as alleged organizers of the smuggling ring who misused their \u201cofficial powers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to investigators, one of the two women, 53 years of age, ran the business through a bogus IT company, forging documents to declare the foreigners, citizens of Turkey, as hired software engineers in applications to the Belarusian embassy and Belarusian migration authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman recruited her 52-year-old acquaintance to run another shell company smuggling citizens of other countries into Belarus. The pair\u2019s illegal earnings were estimated at around 40,000 rubels ($13,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
