September 29, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Importing sanctioned goods into Belarus, clearing them through customs and then bringing them to Russia may offer a profitable route, according to a new Belarusian Investigative Center’s (BIC) report<\/a>, based on a logistics expert\u2019s findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prices rise significantly because of chains of resales, as opposed to making a detour through Belarus via a customs warehouse, reselling the goods and understating their value to reduce customs payments, said the expert who wished to remain anonymous. “If you ship it directly to Russia, all of this will be visible, and the customs payments will be very high. So it is easier to detour through Belarus and understate the value to the minimum level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIC cited its own investigations that confirm these conclusions. In one of them, the journalists found out that Brandshandel company supplied Finnish watches to Russia for less than $13 each, while the wholesale price for a shipment from Turkey to Turkmenistan was nearly $270.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brandshandel is allegedly linked to Viktar \u0160ejman, a close ally of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, who is suspected to be one of the organizers of sanctions-evasion schemes. The company supplies goods to Russia that can be used in the military-industrial complex, including navigation devices, antennas, data transmission and reception equipment, optical and infrared devices and bearings, the BIC noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctioned goods previously moved from the European Union to Russia through Belarus under transit declarations. The EU banned such transit for several categories in July 2024, but some sanctioned goods may still follow the route, according to the BIC source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
