September 28, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Pavie\u0142 Muraviejka, a general appointed today to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, is known for his 2023 controversial remark suggesting that Belarus had every reason to cut a \u201cvital corridor by force of arms\u201d because Lithuania had banned the movement of goods across the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2024 he said that Belarus would not hesitate to use Russian nuclear weapons if faced with a threat to its sovereignty and independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has routinely criticized NATO as \u201cunable to do anything\u201d and touted the strength of the Russian army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Maryina Horka, Minsk region, in 1971, Muraviejka served with the motorized rifle troops, reaching the battalion commander rank. He joined the General Staff in 2001 and was promoted to deputy chief in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served as first deputy state secretary of the Security Council from February 2022 to May 2024, when he was appointed as chief of the General Staff and first deputy defense minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2023, the European Union sanctioned him for alleged involvement in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
