September 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The EU General Court on September 23 dismissed two lawsuits brought by the Belarusian state-owned manufacturers MAZ and BelAZ against the renewal of EU asset freezes, EU Law Live<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plaintiffs were ordered to cover litigation expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 state-controlled automobile companies have contested asset freezes since 2021, but have lost all lawsuits so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest ruling drew a positive response from Belarusian opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEuropean justice has told the regime straight that the protection of human dignity and an end to repression and participation in the war are much more important than the commercial interests of the state auto giants. The ruling on BelAZ and MAZ is the complete failure of [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s strategy to remove sanctions,\u201d he said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctions were not imposed against the plants and workers, he added. \u201cThey cut off oxygen to the dictator who turned enterprises into war shops and financial wallets for holding on to power. As soon as the regime ends repression, releases all political prisoners, stops participation in military aggression and starts dialogue with society, the sanctions will be lifted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
