September 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus\u2019 interior ministry has added 13 names to its list of people it considers \u201cinvolved in extremist activities,\u201d taking the total to 6,930 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of Hanna Muchina, Julijana Ma\u0142a\u010dkova, D\u017amitryj Bakiej, Dzianis Hula\u0161o\u016d, Valancin Mar\u010duk, Aksana Marynina and U\u0142adzimir Kisialo\u016d, convicted on extremism and defamation-related charges, have not been completed, which may mean they are serving non-custodial terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other six blacklisted persons are \u017dana Jasku\u0142d, Alaksandar Babro\u016d, as well as designated political prisoners Valancina Navumava and the Korsaka\u016d family: jailed D\u017amitryj Korsaka\u016d, his wife Ta\u0107ciana Korsakava and exiled daughter Pie\u0142ahieja Korsakava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2026, D\u017amitryj and Ta\u0107ciana Korsaka\u016d were sentenced to 14 and 12 years in prison, respectively, on charges of high treason and arms smuggling. Their daughter, who lives in Ukraine, was sentenced to 11 years in prison in her absence. Earlier this month, the Committee for State Security (KGB)\u00a0also branded D\u017amitryj and Ta\u0107ciana\u00a0as \u201cterrorists.\u201d Rights defenders do not know any details of their case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valancina Navumava, 57, was an activist of the outlawed leftist Just World party. In June, the woman was given seven years in prison and was also branded as a \u201cterrorist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in \u201cextremist\u201d activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 post-election protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression with extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
