September 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus\u2019 GDP growth eased to 1.9 percent in January\u2013August from 2.1 percent in January\u2013July, reflecting weaker agricultural output and cooling activity in manufacturing and construction, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) said in a recent macroeconomic review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysts specifically pointed to a slowdown in agricultural output growth, from nearly 13 percent to 6.9 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consumer demand remains the main driver of economic growth, with retail sales growth accelerating from 8.1 percent to 8.4 percent, the EDB said, noting that an 8.1-percent increase in real disposable income in January\u2013July supported this trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EDB reaffirmed its August 24 forecast that Belarus\u2019 GDP may grow by more than 2 percent in 2026, if the economy does not experience new shocks. The bank had predicted a 1.3-percnet growth in June, raising its projection to above 1.5 percent in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government expects GDP to grow by 2.8 percent this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
