September 18, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Minsk and the Minsk region accounted for 49.8 percent of Belarus\u2019 gross domestic product in January-August, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of the National Statistical Committee\u2019s (Bie\u0142stat) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Brest region led the growth with a 3.4-percent increase year on year, followed by the Minsk region with 2.6 percent, while the city of Minsk and the Homiel region posted 1.6 percent each. Economies of the Hrodna and Mahilo\u016d regions grew 0.9 percent each, while the Viciebsk region posted a modest growth of 0.3 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 economy grew 1.9 percent in the first eight months of 2026 after a 2.1-percent increase posted in January-July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GDP shrank by 1.2 percent in January, remained down 1.2 percent in the first two months and was 0.4 percent lower in the first quarter. Over the past five months, Belarus\u2019 economy posted growth, with 0.2 percent in January-April, 0.9 percent in January-May and 1.5 percent in the first half of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government expects GDP to grow by 2.8 percent this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
