September 18, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Thirty-seven member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have called on the Belarusian authorities to end reprisals against the opposition, civil society and independent media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The joint statement of the Informal Group of Friends of Democratic Belarus, presented by Christian Gr\u00f8nbech-Jensen, Denmark\u2019s permanent representative to the OSCE, also urged Minsk to release and rehabilitate all designated political prisoners immediately and unconditionally and hold perpetrators of human rights abuses accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime \u201claunched a brutal and systematic crackdown on peaceful protestors,\u201d who demanded democracy following what was seen as a fraudulent 2020 presidential election, the statement noted. \u201cRegrettably, we find ourselves repeating many of the same concerns raised last year, as little has changed in the intervening period and the situation continues to warrant our attention,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHuman rights defenders, journalists, opposition figures and other civil society actors continue to face persecution, while transnational repression increasingly targets Belarusians in exile and their families,\u201d the OSCE members said. \u201cSix years on, the courage and democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people remain undiminished. We stand firmly with the people of Belarus in their aspirations for a free, democratic and independent country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signatories included Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albania, Austria, Liechtenstein, Malta, Moldova, North Macedonia and San Marino joined the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
