September 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus-based relay stations facilitated a Russian drone strike on a passenger train near the Yahodyn crossing at the Ukrainian\u2011Polish border, Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, was quoted as saying by Ukrinform<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk is once again providing active assistance for the Kremlin\u2019s strikes on the Ukrainian territory, Demchenko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian drones entering from Russia \u201cstay close to the Belarusian border to receive an amplified signal, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the Ukrainian territory,\u201d including for strikes on the Rivne, Volyn and Lviv provinces, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demchenko reiterated that Ukraine does not currently see any buildup of Belarusian strike forces near the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Russian drone hit the train at the Yahodyn railroad station on September 13 minutes after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and top European security officials had passed through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No casualties were reported after the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson and other European national security advisers, including the UK’s Jonathan Powell, had passed along the same line on a different train on their way back from a conference in Kyiv. Former CIA Director David Petraeus was sitting inside another train at the very same station platform when the attack occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview<\/a> with The Times<\/em> published on September 11, Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine\u2019s defense ministry, said Belarus-based drone control relay systems used by Russian troops to facilitate attacks on Ukraine had resumed operation again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ivashchenko, Russian forces use a network of towers and relay systems along the border with Ukraine to transmit video signals, with six such systems identified so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle four drone-control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. \u201cIf he [\u0141uka\u0161enka] does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, Zelensky said the relay systems had suspended operations. He followed up with additional demands, saying Belarus should stop developing an \u201caggressive infrastructure\u201d of roads and storage facilities for ammunition, fuel and lubricants near the Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, Ukrainian officials have reported only occasional, and in some cases unconfirmed, instances of relay systems being used in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
