September 15, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin has met with Azerbaijan\u2019s counterpart Zakir Hasanov and Iran\u2019s Deputy Chief of the General Staff Mohammad Taghi Asanloo (Oslanlu) on the sidelines of the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Hasanov, Chrenin exchanged views of the \u201cmilitary political situation\u201d and discussed \u201cexpanding cooperation on issues of mutual interest,\u201d the Belarusian defense ministry reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting with Asanloo, held at Iran\u2019s initiative, focused on the situation in the Middle East, the ministry said. Both sides \u201cconfirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral military cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum started on September 15 and will last through September 17. Prior to forum, Chrenin had met with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun to discuss closer military training ties with Beijing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iranian General Mohammad Taghi Asanloo is under EU, US, and UK sanctions for his role as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\u2019 ground forces commander accused of serious human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chrenin\u2019s meeting with the Azerbaijani counterpart comes amid Belarus\u2019 souring relations with Armenia, which accuses Minsk of siding with Azerbaijan during the recent war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
