September 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, deputy head of the opposition transition cabinet, called on the European Union to increase its support for Belarusian pro-democracy forces and independent media at the 35th Economic Forum in Poland’s Karpacz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democratic initiatives by exiled Belarusians should receive more funding to effectively counter Russia’s control of Belarus\u2019 information space, he argued, noting that Moscow continues to invest hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars to maintain its positions in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU should focus its strategy on the information sphere and the fight for people\u2019s minds, alongside building border fences and buying weapons, \u0141atu\u0161ka stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka has effectively surrendered his foreign and military policies [to Moscow]. This dramatic turn of events occurred after the 2020 election, when he lost and, to keep his position, sought support from Russia,\u201d the transition cabinet\u2019s press office quoted the politician as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe needs to stand united in pushing back against Russia\u2019s aggressive policies, \u0141atu\u0161ka noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
