September 11, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense units participated in operational-tactical exercises at one of Russia\u2019s training grounds, the Belarusian defense ministry reports, without specifying the exact location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its earlier report, however, mentioned the Ashuluk training ground in Russia\u2019s Astrakhan province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-day maneuvers in Russia were the second phase of a drill that began in Belarus, with the first phase held from August 25 to 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej \u0141ukjanovi\u010d, Belarus\u2019 air\/air defense commander, said the main tasks for aircraft and air defense crews were to detect, track and engage air targets, with a particular focus on countering drones and precision-guided cruise missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Servicemen also practiced operating S-300PS air defense systems during live-fire exercises, while Yak-130 light combat aircraft and Su-30SM fighter crews engaged simulated aerial targets, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, female students of the Air Defense Department of the Belarusian Military Academy took part in missions as members of air defense units, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army is regularly conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
