September 10, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Polish Sejm has voted 418 to 16 with four abstentions to extend restrictions on the acceptance of asylum requests at the border with Belarus by another 60 days, Poland\u2019s local government\u2019s website reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland stopped accepting asylum requests at the border with Belarus on March 27, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between that date to April 21 this year, Poland refused to accept asylum requests from 475 foreigners, the site reported four months ago. Authorities only accepted 127 asylum requests from vulnerable applicants, the report said. One year before the measure was introduced, foreigners filed 3,130 asylum requests at the border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland reported a sevenfold rise in the number of irregular crossing attempts from Belarus in the first eight days of September. The country prevented 52 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus between September 1 and September 8, compared with seven in the same period last month and 54 in all of August, according to Pozirk\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to enter the European Union surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that foreigners were traveling to the EU because they were \u201cinvited there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
