September 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> North Korea has “achieved significant success under the wise leadership of great leaders whose names are inscribed in golden letters in the annals of history,” Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka says in a message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the occasion of his country’s founding anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This success is evidenced by the “growing well-being of the population, rising production rates and economic development” in North Korea, \u0141uka\u0161enka is quoted as saying by his press office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lukashenka notes the strengthening of ties between Minsk and Pyongyang, recalling his recent visit to North Korea, and stresses that all agreements reached in Pyongyang are “being implemented in a timely manner in the interests of the peoples of both countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expresses hope that the \u201cconstructive dialogue\u201d will continue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka visited North Korea on March 25 and 26, and his spokeswoman said that the visit \u201cexceeded all expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Korea is a totalitarian state under a strict cult of personality and also under UN Security Council sanctions over its nuclear program. Since its foundation in 1948, the power has been handed over from father to son \u2013 from Kim Il Sung to Kim Jong Il to Kim Jong Un.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Minsk announced that it will open an embassy in Pyongyang by August 1. Ji Gyong Su, the newly appointed ambassador of North Korea to Belarus, has already presented his diplomatic credentials to \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk has sought top-level contacts with North Korea for the last few years. Earlier this year, \u0141uka\u0161enka congratulated Kim Jong Un on his re-election as leader of the Workers\u2019 Party of Korea, while Kim congratulated the Belarusian strongman on extending his 30-year-long rule in Belarus last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
