September 8, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The interior ministry\u2019s internal troops simulated repelling an attempt to seize a key industrial facility and take its executives hostage during an ongoing combat readiness exercise, the ministry\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The units also practiced blocking and neutralizing a sabotage and reconnaissance group in an urban environment, deploying tactical teams in armored personnel carriers and using an FPV drone for hostage rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other scenarios included confronting armed saboteurs in a passenger car and combatting a mock enemy in trenches using machine gunners, assault riflemen and mortar crews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian Security Council chief Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d and Interior Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d observed the maneuvers today. Rather than comment on the drill scenarios, Kubrako\u016d boasted that his ministry had sufficient forces and resources to quell any mass unrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internal troops were heavily involved in suppressing mass protests against electoral fraud in 2020 and had been used to disperse peaceful street demonstrations in earlier years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army has been conducting exercises non-stop amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
