September 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has met Lithuanian Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas in Vilnius, calling on Lithuania to make Belarus \u201cone of the priorities on the European agenda\u201d during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, her press office says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian MPs from the For a Democratic Belarus parliamentary group and representatives of most Lithuanian political parties also took part in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion focused on preparations for the release of jailed Belarusian dissidents, facilitating the exchange of Belarusian driving licenses, government funding for master\u2019s degree programs, Lithuanian language courses for Belarusian expats, the future of European Humanities University, among other issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politicians also reportedly agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation between Belarusian pro-democracy forces and the Lithuanian Seimas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLithuania remains one of the most reliable political friends of a democratic Belarus. Our main goal is to turn this support into even more sustainable and concrete actions for Belarusians,\u201d Cichano\u016dskaja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania will hold the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU from January 1 to June 30, 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
