September 2, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 Security Council has launched an exercise designed to test the combat readiness of an Internal Troops\u2019 brigade under simulated combat conditions, drawing on lessons learned from modern conflict, including the one in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 2, State Secretary of the Security Council Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d handed Interior Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d a formal order to put the 7th Separate Special Internal Troops Police Brigade in Viciebsk on combat alert in accordance with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s concept, state media reported.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valfovi\u010d recalled that he handed a similar order to Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin on August 24, targeting the 51st Artillery Brigade in Asipovi\u010dy, Mahilo\u016d region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Valfovi\u010d, \u0141uka\u0161enka had tasked him with scrutinizing other agencies of Belarus\u2019 military and security apparatus, including the interior ministry as one of its key elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valfovi\u010d said the drill would evaluate on the combat and mobilization readiness of the Internal Troops, with mobilization measures and the staffing of the Viciebsk-based brigade up to wartime levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will examine how the Internal Troops have incorporated the experience of the special military operation and other modern conflicts,\u201d Valfovi\u010d said. He described the main mission as \u201cmaintaining public order in our country amid destabilization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia uses the euphemism \u201cspecial military operation\u201d to refer to its full-scale aggressive war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Internal Troops were heavily involved in suppressing mass protests against electoral fraud in 2020 and had been used to disperse peaceful street demonstrations in earlier years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since late 2022, the Internal Troops have been setting up new special-task units trained with the help of mercenaries linked to Russia\u2019s Wagner Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army has been conducting exercises non-stop amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
