September 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Ukraine does not threaten civil aviation, but airlines flying to Russia should take into account the growing number of attack drones in Russian airspace, which is becoming increasingly unsafe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyiv stressed that the warning applies to every airline using Russian airspace, as well as insurers and other parties that continue to use major Russian airports, amid what it described as a lack of adequate warnings from the Russian side. \u201cThe war unleashed by Russia [against Ukraine] is closing its airspace,\u201d the politician said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine does not want innocent people to die and is therefore warning airlines and foreign diplomats of the danger in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine\u2019s foreign ministry and other agencies would provide international organizations with comprehensive information about the dangers in Russian airspace, the politician said, adding that \u201ccivil aviation has no place among drones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky\u2019s message directly concerns Belarusians as Minsk is connected to nearly two dozen Russian cities by air with more than 10 daily flights to Moscow alone. Belarusians also often use Russian airports for connections on international flights after Belarus’ flagship carrier Bie\u0142avija had been banned from flying to the European Union following the May 2021 Ryanair Flight 4978 forced landing. Belarusian security officers cited a false bomb threat to divert the passenger aircraft to Minsk and arrest prominent journalist Raman Pratasievi\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three days ago, passengers flying out of the Minsk International Airport experienced numerous flight delays over the closure of Russian airspace following Ukraine\u2019s drone attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
