August 27, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The courage of the Moldovans who made a European choice gives hope to Belarusians, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has said in her congratulatory message to Moldovan President Maia Sandu on Independence Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMoldova has shown that even under relentless pressure, a nation can defend its democracy,\u201d the politician noted on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-European Sandu was elected Moldova\u2019s president in late 2020 and has met Cichano\u016dskaja on several occasions since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Moldova joined the European Union\u2019s sanctions on Belarus-based AAT Izovac (OOO Izovac), which has supplied $200\u202fmillion worth of goods to Russian defense contractors since the start of Russia\u2019s full-scale war on Ukraine in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
