August 24, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong> The true Belarus is not Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, who provided Belarusian territory for Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, nor his \u201cpropaganda and generals,\u201d but the Belarusians who \u201cchose freedom and stood alongside Ukraine,\u201d Belarusian pro-democracy leader Sviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja says in her message of greetings to the people of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky on the occasion of the country\u2019s Independence Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians stand with Ukraine, with Belarusian volunteers fighting for Ukraine with weapons in their hands, Belarusian partisans stopping Russian military trains, volunteers saving lives, raising funds for vehicles, drones and medical aid, and the Belarusian diaspora helping Ukraine around the world, Cichano\u016dskaja says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJournalists and activists are exposing Russian propaganda and the crimes of the regime,\u201d she adds. \u201cAnd Belarusian prisons are still holding people for showing solidarity with Ukraine and resisting Russian aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja says that many Belarusians pin hopes for change in Belarus on Ukraine defeating Russia on the battlefield. She stresses that neither Belarusians nor Ukrainians want their future to be decided in Moscow and promises that Belarusian pro-democracy forces will do their utmost to help Ukraine\u2019s war effort and collect evidence of the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime\u2019s \u201cinvolvement in the aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has also extended Independence Day to Ukraine, addressing them to the Ukrainian people. The Belarusian ruler expressed confidence that \u201cfuture generations of Belarusians and Ukrainians will preserve their ages-old bonds of friendship and kinship despite geopolitical upheavals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities support Russia in the full-scale war against Ukraine launched by Moscow in February 2022. Minsk has allowed Russian troops to attack Ukraine from the Belarusian territory on multiple occasions, supplying weapons to Russia and providing other kinds of assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
