August 24, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>. <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) may grow by more than two percent in 2026, surpassing the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB)\u2019s forecast, if the economy does not experience new shocks, the institution says in its weekly macroeconomic review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June, the EDB projected the country\u2019s economy to grow by 1.3 percent this year. In early August, the bank revised the projection upward to 1.5 percent, citing a significant increase in fixed capital expenditures reported by Belarusian authorities.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the review, the EDB attributes the latest GDP growth figures to the rise in agricultural output, from 4.7 percent year-on-year in the first six months of 2026 to 12.9 percent in the first seven months. The bank also notes that Belarus\u2019 industrial output had reportedly increased by 0.1 percent in the first seven months after declining by 0.7 percent in the first six months. The review links to reversal to what it calls strong domestic consumer demand, rising fixed capital expenditures as well as increased demand for fuel in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EDB points out that retail trade and fixed capital expenditures are reported to have increased by 8.1 and four percent, respectively, year-on-year in the first seven months. It notes the ongoing recovery of the construction sector among the positive trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 official statisticians reported that the country\u2019s economic growth accelerated to 2.1 percent in the first seven months after contracting in the first three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the government\u2019s Social and Economic Development Forecast for 2026, the nation’s GDP is expected to grow by 2.8 percent this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
