August 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Latvia on August 20 reported 109 attempts by undocumented third-country migrants to cross the border from Belarus bypassing the official checkpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apprehended migrants included 28 people who entered the country through a tunnel under the border. They have been return to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvian border guards recorded the same number of incidents on August 16, registering 45, 18 and 10 attempts, respectively, in the following three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irregular crossings have been reported at the Belarusian-Latvian border for 149 days in a row since March 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its border guards registered 10,068 irregular border crossing attempts this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 10, Latvia launched the operation Vilkatis to crack down on irregular migration by third-country nationals via Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia accounted for more than 85 percent of attempted irregular entries into the European Union from Belarus this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 11, Latvian border guards discovered another tunnel under the border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
