August 20, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>. <\/strong>Aleksandr Lanetsky, a newly appointed board member of Lithuanian Airports, has resigned amid allegations of possible links to Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, LRT <\/em>reported that Lithuania\u2019s State Security Department would carry out an additional review to vet Lanetsky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Minister Juras Taminskas reportedly requested an urgent probe after new revelations about Lanetsky, who had passed the initial national-security screening, raised questions about his suitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to LRT<\/em>, Lanetsky had publicly echoed Kremlin narratives, referring to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine as a \u201cspecial military operation\u201d and describing the self-proclaimed \u201cLuhansk People\u2019s Republic\u201d as a territory with an \u201cunclear legal status.\u201d He also reportedly characterized the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk as \u201cneutral toward Belarus,\u201d a view at odds with Lithuania\u2019s official stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 23, 2021, Belarusian security forces cited a false bomb threat to divert the Ryanair aircraft en route from Athens to Vilnius and arrest journalist Raman Pratasievi\u010d and Russian national Sofiya Sapega. Both were convicted in Belarus, but pardoned and released later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
