August <\/strong>15, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Georgian driver of a minibus that plunged into a ravine in the Guria region, killing four Belarusians and injuring 15 other tourists yesterday, did not have the license required for transporting such a number of passengers, Pirveli TV reported on August 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, the court in Ozurgeti ruled that the Georgian should be placed in pretrial detention. He had been brought to the courthouse from a hospital where he had been receiving treatment for multiple injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man is under investigation for dangerous driving resulting in two or more deaths and faces up to 10 years in prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 12, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter reportedly suffered brake failure while descending from the Gomismta mountain resort. The driver managed to jump out of the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The injured passengers, including six children, were taken to hospitals in Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri and Batumi. Two victims were said to be in intensive care. On August 14, four people were discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second fatal crash involving Belarusian tourists in Georgia this summer. In July, a minibus carrying a group of tourists collided with a passenger car in Batumi. Two Belarusians, a 41-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, were killed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
