August 12, Pozirk. <\/strong>The neighboring European Union countries prevented 531 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus in the first ten days of July, according to Pozirk\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia was the primary target with 460 attempts, or 86.6 percent of the total. Lithuania and Poland reported 42 and 29 irregular crossing attempts, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of attempts at irregular border crossing decreased by half compared with the first 10 days of July, when 1,060 cases were reported, including 997 by Latvia, 31 by Lithuania and 31 by Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many as 1,932 attempts at irregular entry were reportedly prevented in the first 10 days of August 2025, including 1,559 into Poland, 334 into Latvia and 39 into Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors reported thwarting 10,961 irregular crossings since the start of 2026, including 9,520 into Latvia, 1,077 into Lithuania and 364 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total number of attempts at irregular entry from Belarus was significantly larger in the same period of 2025, when those countries reported 29,292 such attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
