August 11, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>. <\/strong>Police in the Minsk region held a drill on August 11 to hone their skills in suppressing street protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Minsk regional police department, officers of the regional police and Interior Troops were involved in the exercise, which took place on training grounds in the village of Akolica\u00a0near Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants reportedly practiced \u201ctactical techniques and action algorithms to abort mass disorders in a residential locality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a drill conducted in Mahilo\u016d on May 27, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d said that police were being trained to prevent a repeat of the 2020 protests, a reference to the massive peaceful demonstrations against alleged fraud in the presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kubrako\u016d stressed that police officers should not hesitate to use firearms \u201cif someone is trying to commit mayhem\u201d against security forces deployed to suppress riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police conducted exercises in Viciebsk on April 23 and 24, in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, on June 4, in Viciebsk and Re\u010dyca, Homiel region, on June 23 and 24, in S\u0142onim on July 7, and in Hrodna, Lida and Vialikaja Bierastavica on July 29 and 30 to boost their readiness for the dispersal of street protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the 2020 post-election protests were largely peaceful, police used brutal force to disperse them and arrest participants. Several protesters were killed, but their deaths have not been investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
