August 7, Pozirk<\/em><\/strong><\/em>. <\/strong>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told officials on Friday to hold inflation in check and warned about declining domestic sales of Belarusian-made food products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a government conference in the Vilejka district, Minsk region, the Belarusian ruler described the year-on-year consumer price growth of 4.3 percent in June as \u201cseemingly not bad\u201d but cautioned against complacency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka noted sharp increases in the prices of several food staples, including fresh cabbages, onions and beets, and said that violations of pricing rules \u201care occurring everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka stressed that the share of Belarusian-produced goods in retail trade, 54.6 percent, is too small. According to him, it has grown slightly not because of the strong performance of the trade sector but because of rising sales of BelGee cars fuelled by the government\u2019s affordable loans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka noted that Belarus imported $7.5 billion worth of consumer goods between January and May 2026, nearly one-third more than a year earlier, including products made by Belarusian manufacturers, such as refrigerators, freezers and hosiery. \u201cYou are losing your own market,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the National Bank\u2019s Main Monetary Policy Guidelines for 2026, the inflation rate should not exceed seven percent this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 consumer prices reportedly increased by 6.8 percent in 2025, whereas the government had projected an inflation rate of no more than five percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
