{"id":198631,"date":"2026-08-04T23:59:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T20:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/198631\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T00:12:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T21:12:16","slug":"new-arrests-extremist-designations-reported-in-belarus-2","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/198631\/","title":{"rendered":"New\u00a0conviction, \u201cextremist\u201d designations, other instances of political purges\u00a0reported in Belarus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 4,\u00a0<em>Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>Sources in Belarus reported\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0conviction, \u201cextremist\u201d designations,\u00a0pressure on a political prisoner\u00a0and other instances of politically motivated persecution and repressive practices on\u00a0August 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is Pozirk\u2019s recap:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A judge at the Minsk City Court sentenced exiled Belarusian rock star Siarhiej Micha\u0142ok (Siarhei Mikhalok) to four years in prison, finding him guilty of\u00a0inciting hatred and insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, according to the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The information ministry added\u00a010\u00a0Instagram,\u00a0X,\u00a0Threads, TikTok and\u00a0Telegram\u00a0accounts\u00a0and two books to its list of \u201cextremist content.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alena \u0141azar\u010dyk, a political prisoner serving a nine-and-a-half-year term, has been placed in a cell-type room, <em>Mediazona<\/em> reported.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Belarusian government has dissolved at least 2,053 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, between the 2020 presidential election and July 31, 2026, Lawtrend said in a recent report.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Belarusian authorities released Russian nationals arrested after a police raid on the Rainbow Family event in Rasony, Viciebsk region, after holding them in detention for a day, the Viasna Human Rights Center said.\u00a0They were reportedly banned from entering Belarus for one year.\u00a0A participant, who asked to be unnamed, denied the allegation that there were naked people at the event outside of the bathhouse or the beach area. He said that the police had threatened people with jail for refusing to sign charge sheets, which contained blank spaces. Police brutally beat up one person, the eyewitness said.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of documented political prisoners in Belarus remained unchanged at 880, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
