August 4, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Belarusian government has dissolved at least 2,053 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, between the 2020 presidential election and July 31, 2026, Lawtrend said in a recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of last month, at least 1,249 NGOs were in the process of dissolution ordered by authorities, and 804 filed for dissolution on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 99 NGOs were shut down in 2025, 382 in 2024 and 336 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights defenders said that pressure on civil society in Belarus persisted in July, with authorities continuing to use anti-extremism legislation against activists, including those based abroad, and stepping up the criminalization of unwanted online content by designating it as \u201cextremist.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lawtrend, authorities tightened screws on legal entities as the practice of suspending the bank accounts of organizations absent from their official places of registration gathered momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group also recalled crackdowns on cultural and recreational events last month as a manifestation of the regime\u2019s growing intolerance toward any gatherings not organized by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
