July 28, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 permanent representative to the United Nations, Valancin Rybako\u016d, told reporters today that he meets with US Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale on a regular basis and hopes that those meetings would bear \u201cvisible fruit in the foreseeable future.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rybako\u016d, he sees Coale every seven or 10 days and other officials in Washington \u201cwhen necessary\u201d to discuss \u201cthe next steps that both sides can and must take after his last visit.\u201d It was a reference to Coale\u2019s visit on March 19 that resulted in the release of 250 Belarus\u2019 political prisoners in exchange for a sanction relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rybako\u016d indicated the possibility of \u201cnew visits\u201d but would not say when they could take place.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several days ago, Washington put forward \u201cnew proposals\u201d for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, and the Belarusian leader has studied them and \u201cgiven respective directives\u201d to agencies, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rybako\u016d said that expected to meet with Coale in New York in a few days to pass him \u201ca message\u201d from \u0141uka\u0161enka. \u201cLet\u2019s wait for the result,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rybako\u016d made his remarks to the state media after talking to \u0141uka\u0161enka, who expressed optimism about the prospects of relations with the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In total, more than 400 political prisoners have been released as a result of talks between Minsk and Washington. In exchange, the United States is gradually lifting its sanctions against the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, Washington has dropped its restrictive measures against Bie\u0142investbank, the Development Bank of Belarus, the Ministry of Finance, the Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij potash giant and Belarusian Potash Company, and Belarus\u2019 national airline Bie\u0142avija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the US Office for Foreign Assets Control removed restrictions against BEL-KAP-STEEL LLC, a Maiami-based company co-owned by Belarusian Steel Works, without disclosing the reasons. Washington imposed sanctions on BEL-KAP-STEEL in 2023 along with restrictions on the BMZ, which owns a 50-percent stake in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017d\u0142obin-based Belarusian Steel Works is under international sanctions for supplying Russia with products used in its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
