July 27, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Labor productivity increased by 0.6 percent in Belarus in the first five months of 2026 compared with the same period of the previous year, while real (inflation-adjusted) monthly pay rose by 7.1 percent, according to the National Statistics Committee (Bie\u0142stat)\u2019s data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Labor productivity reportedly increased by 2.2 percent in the Brest region, by 1.6 percent in the Homiel region, by 0.8 percent in the Minsk region, and by 0.1 percent in the Mahilo\u016d region. It declined by 0.3 percent in the Hrodna region, by 0.4 percent in Minsk, and by 0.7 percent in the Viciebsk region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real pay reportedly uncreased by 9.3 percent in the Viciebsk region, by 8.5 percent in the Brest region, by 8.3 percent in the Hrodna region, by 7.8 percent in the Minsk region, by 7.3 percent in the Mahilo\u016d region, by 5.8 percent in the Homiel region, and by 5.1 percent in Minsk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a government conference this past February, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka scalded the government over Belarus\u2019 economic performance. The ruler said, among other things, that the pace of labor productivity growth is two or three times slower in Belarus than in developed countries. He noted that real pay increased by as much as nine percent in 2025 while labor productivity rose by only one percent. \u201cWhat is the use of this prosperity that we are parading as a great achievement?\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economists point out that real pay growth consistently outpacing productivity gains can fuel inflation and increase production costs, threatening long-term macroeconomic stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
