July 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus looks forward to expanding ties with brotherly Cuba, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka says in a message of greetings to the country’s president, Miguel Mario D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez, on National Rebellion Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid many years of unprecedented external pressure, Cuba has set an example of courage and firmness of spirit, \u0141uka\u0161enka is quoted as saying by his press office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler praises the \u201cheroic endurance and tireless will of the Cubans\u201d and describes Minsk as a \u201cdevoted friend of Havana.\u201d\u00a0It is on this\u00a0\u201csolid foundation\u00a0that I count on the further consistent development and expansion of\u00a0ties with\u00a0brotherly\u00a0Cuba\u00a0using\u00a0all available opportunities,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuba is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region. It is facing severe international sanctions over its authoritarian rule, human rights violations and association with anti-Western regimes. On July 23, the United States further tightened its screws on the island nation, adding nine Cuban companies and two individuals to the sanctions lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00edaz-Canel visited Belarus in June 2025 to attend a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Cuba holds observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
