{"id":196720,"date":"2026-07-22T12:34:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/196720\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T12:34:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:34:47","slug":"politically-motivated-arrests-conviction-extremist-designations-reported-in-belarus","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/196720\/","title":{"rendered":"Politically motivated arrests, conviction, \u201cextremist\u201d designations reported in Belarus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>July 22, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Sources in Belarus reported new arrests, a criminal conviction, \u201cextremist\u201d designations and other instances of political purges on July 21 as the regime continues to persecute its opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is <em>Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> recap of developments on Tuesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Investigative Committee reported that authorities are now monitoring Threads and TikTok and have made \u201cfirst arrests\u201d and opened criminal cases for \u201cinciting hatred\u201d and making \u201cfalse reports of danger.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A judge of the Minsk City Court sentenced a resident of Minsk to five years of \u201crestricted freedom\u201d in home confinement and a fine of 100 times the Base Rate, or 4,500 rubels ($1,560), for allegedly financing \u201cextremism\u201d and illegally possessing weapons. The man stood accused of donating $5 to Belarusian solidarity foundation BySol in 2020 and \u20ac10 to the Belarusian Council for Culture in 2022. The two organizations had not been designated as \u201cextremist\u201d until December 2021 and April 2026, respectively. The man was also found in possession of a rubber bullet revolver, according to the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The public prosecutor in the trial of Hrodna resident Valancina Navumava asked the Hrodna Regional Court\u2019s judge to sentence the woman to seven years in prison. The political prisoner stands accused of a long list of \u201cextremism\u201d-related offences, including inciting hatred, facilitating extremist activities, insulting and slandering Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and abusing state symbols, Haradzienskaja Pravaabarona reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Supreme Court of Russia designated a Belarusian hacktivist group called Cyberpartisans and its partner Silent Crow as \u201cextremist organizations.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The information ministry added 10 Telegram, Instagram and VKontakte accounts to its list of \u201cextremist content.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As many as 234 web-based \u201cdestructive information channels\u201d were detected in the Mahilo\u016d region in the first six months of 2026, the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office reported. They are now expected to be blacklisted as \u201cextremist content.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Belarusian human rights organizations designated sound engineer Juryj Tra\u0161\u010dynski as a political prisoner. A judge in Homiel sentenced Tra\u0161\u010dynski to two and a half years in prison over cooperation with the Poland-based <em>Radyjo Racyja<\/em> station, blacklisted as an \u201cextremist organization,\u201d the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of documented political prisoners in Belarus increased by one to 865, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
